Hi, my name is Simon Glass; I joined Clavis Technology a couple of months ago from The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) where I worked in the consumer packaged goods giant’s Global Data Management organization. I also spent a number of years working at The Gillette Company in the US and Canada, and before that as a consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Throughout my career I’ve focused on supply chain effectiveness and the part high quality product data plays in streamlining consumer products distribution and supply. And that’s what I’m going to focus on here at Clavis Technology.
As we know the CPG sector is under constant pressure to innovate – introducing new ways for consumers to buy, providing extended product ranges and addressing increasing demands from consumers and legislators. Tight margins mean there is always a drive to realize operational efficiencies and cost savings, and to improve cross-enterprise visibility and governance. The flow of information and product data in particular, is critical when it comes to supporting these initiatives.<
In the coming months I hope to shed some light from my experience on how CPG suppliers, retailers and distributors can work together to gain better control and insight across their supply chains and reap significant benefits such as eliminating supply chain breakdowns and rework, and avoiding delays with new product introductions.
It’s all about the data. Data standards and data quality are the foundation for better collaboration between trading partners and successful business-to-business eCommerce. As GS1 – the organization responsible for global CPG trading standards – puts it, “when a supplier and a customer know they are looking at the same accurate and up-to-date data, it is smoother, quicker and less expensive for them to do business together.”
